Media Interpreting
In recent years, media interpreting has become more prominent particularly for live or recorded TV broadcasts such as press conferences, interviews, political debates, commercials, variety shows, beauty pageants, and other media events.
Although similar to conference interpreting, there are some important differences that make this type of interpretation stand by itself. Media interpreting is considered one the most challenging forms of translation, since in many occasions it has to be done at short notice and therefore with little time for preparation. This adds to the possible unforeseeable technical problems that may arise and must be dealt with swiftly. Due to the speed of the interpretation and the setting itself, ideally, there must be a sound-proof booth for each interpreter, equipped with a comfortable chair, a microphone, and a monitor for the interpreter to see the speakers and the set. There are also many other details that should be looked after in this type of interpreting such as tone of voice, rhythm and diction of the interpreter.
