FAQ › Frequently Asked Questions

› Q. What does localization mean?

Localization means adapting an object to a specific locality based on its specific characteristics. Localization into different languages has to do with the process of adapting a document for a certain region or audience.
There are very significant differences in linguistic aspects such as pronunciation and grammar within a language, and companies should take these differences into account when creating a website for a regional market.
On the other hand, software localization is the process of adapting computer programs for countries and cultures where the software messages the user sees should be translated into his/her own language. Also, graphics and images should be adapted to fulfill the needs of the target audience.
Quills Language Services has years of experience in providing website and software localization services. Our team of professionals has the knowledge and technical tools necessary to adapt the text and graphics to the local cultural standards. In this way, your product will work effectively for your specific target audience.

› Q: What does Desktop Publishing mean?

Desktop Publishing, or DTP, is the task of using specific layout software to create publication documents. Users create page layouts with texts, graphics, pictures and other visual elements with the use of DTP software such as PageMaker, QuarkXoress or Adobe Photoshop.
Many of the errors present in multilingual translation are not the result of the translation itself but rather occur in the design phase. Frequently, designers do not understand the language and therefore make errors in the final production phase
Our specialized design team is proficient in Quarkxpress, Photoshop, PageMaker, FrameMaker and Dreamweaver. With Quills Language Services your translated document will look just like the original. Once the documents are ready for printing, our team of editors and proofreaders will conduct a final revision to ensure that the final text is produced error-free.
This way, our team will be able to guarantee a translation of the highest quality that is ready to be printed and published.

› Q. What does Proofreading mean? Do you provide editing and proofreading services?

Proofreading is the correction of grammar mistakes, incorrect punctuation, inadequate spacing, missing or incorrect accents, always ensuring the text keeps its original format.
Our team of proofreaders is responsible for providing adequate quality control by thoroughly revising texts so as to ensure they are error-free.  Proofreading entails correcting spelling and printing errors, punctuation, grammatical errors, inappropriate page breaks, missing or incorrectly placed accents and making sure the exact original format is reflected. Our proofreaders review specialized terminology, sentences, sentence structure and context so as to reproduce the author's intention as precisely as possible and get the best results.
Editing and proofreading are the best complements to our translation services. Having a professional edit or proofread a text prior to the printing and publishing process can save you time, effort and money.

› Q. What does requesting a quote mean?

Requesting a quote is when a potential client sends a request to analyze a translation project in order to establish how long it will take and how much it will cost. The response will include the cost, the estimated delivery time, the resources necessary to carry out the task and information about the company.

› Q. What is a glossary?

A glossary is a list of terms in a particular field with their exact definition. It consists of the explanation of concepts relevent to a specific field of study or action.
A bilingual glossary is a list of terms in one language defined in a second language or described with synonyms in another language.
